Automating Workflows

Faculty name: Ian Yong Hoe Tan

In this module, Prof Ian explores how organisations move from AI experimentation to practical workflow automation. You will examine the difference between demos and real-world pilots, learn how AI agents and multi-agent systems support business processes, and explore how workflows can be designed using triggers, actions, connectors and human oversight. Through enterprise case studies and practical examples, you will develop a framework for identifying, designing, and evaluating AI-enabled workflows within your organisation.

Learning Outcomes

Course Goals-1.pngProgramme outcome addressed this module:

  • Plan, run and scale Agentic AI pilots into operational workflows

Module Outcomes.pngBy the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between a demo and a real-world pilot for AI-enabled workflows.
  • Identify characteristics of effective AI workflow pilots, including scope, reversibility and measurable success criteria.
  • Describe how AI agents, connectors, and multi-agent systems support workflow automation across organisations.
  • Apply trigger–action workflow logic to design simple automation chains across tools and systems.
  • Evaluate when human oversight, escalation and checkpoints are necessary in automated workflows.

Before viewing the learning videos, we suggest reviewing the module's activities to gain context and achieve better comprehension. Take a few moments to explore what you'll be required to complete this module before diving into the learning videos.
