Learning Outcomes Addressed:
- Apply computational thinking concepts such as decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction and algorithms to workflow problems.
- Map an existing workflow to identify friction points, decision points and opportunities for automation or augmentation.
Scenario
Select a task that you perform regularly at work and map the workflow from start to finish.
Identify:
- What triggers the workflow
- The key steps involved
- Inputs and where they come from
- Decision points and areas requiring human judgement
- Activities that are repetitive, time-consuming, or create delays
Then redesign the workflow by identifying opportunities for AI assistance or automation while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
Reflection Questions
- Which parts of the workflow could be automated or AI-augmented?
- Which decisions should remain human-led and why?
- How would your redesigned workflow improve efficiency, user experience or accountability?
Estimated Duration: 30 minutes
Note: This is a practice activity and will not be graded or impact your programme completion. However, we strongly encourage participation for a more holistic learning experience.
