Designing Workflows
Faculty name: Ian Yong Hoe Tan
Focus: In this module, Prof Ian focuses on making invisible work visible by identifying, mapping and redesigning workflows. You will explore how computational thinking helps break complex problems into manageable steps and how AI can be applied thoughtfully at key points within a workflow. The module also examines decision points, handoffs, friction points and the importance of designing workflows around solving problems rather than around specific tools.

- Plan, run and scale Agentic AI pilots into operational workflows
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe the structure of a workflow, including triggers, decisions, handoffs and outputs.
- Differentiate between personal, team, and organisational workflows and their redesign implications.
- Apply computational thinking concepts such as decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms to workflow problems.
- Map an existing workflow to identify friction points, decision points and opportunities for automation or augmentation.
- Design a basic workflow algorithm that clearly defines triggers, steps, decision gates, outputs and human–AI responsibilities.
