In this video, Prof Ian explains how workflows can be analysed through three key elements: friction points, decision points and handoff points. He highlights that AI is most effective at automating repetitive, rule-based tasks that create friction, while human judgement remains essential for complex, sensitive or context-dependent decisions. He also emphasises the importance of carefully determining where automation adds value and where human oversight should remain.
