Learning Outcomes Addressed:
- Build a simple AI-powered application that uses an external API to retrieve or process information.
Scenario
Before building an AI-powered application, it is helpful to map out the user experience and workflow. Creating a simple storyboard can help you think through how users will interact with the application and what information or actions are required at each stage.
Task
Follow the steps below:
Step 1: Choose a Simple App Idea
Think of a simple application that could solve a workplace problem or support a common task.
Examples might include:
- A meeting preparation assistant
- A customer enquiry helper
- A travel planning assistant
- A knowledge search tool
Step 2: Create a 3-Step Storyboard
Draw three boxes and label them:
- Step 1
- Step 2
- Step 3
For each box, write:
- What the user sees
- What the user does
- What happens next
Keep the workflow simple and focused on the user experience.
Step 3: Add One Rule for Each Step
For every step, define one requirement that must be met before the user can continue.
Examples:
- Must enter a question
- Must select a destination
- Must choose a preferred date
- Must provide a keyword
Step 4: Ask AI to Build the Application
Using your completed storyboard, provide the steps and rules to an AI-powered development tool.
Ask the AI to create an application that follows your storyboard exactly.
For example:
"Create an application with three steps. In Step 1, the user enters a question. In Step 2, the application retrieves information and presents options. In Step 3, the user receives a summary. The user must complete each step before moving to the next."
Step 5: Review the Generated Application
Consider the following:
- Does the application follow your storyboard?
- Are the user steps clear and logical?
- Is any information missing?
- Would you change any part of the workflow?
Estimated Duration: 30 minutes
Note: This is a practice activity and will not be graded or impact your programme completion. However, we strongly encourage participation for a more holistic learning experience.
